Ho-Hum, Another "Lovely" Summer Day~~~~NOT!! I have had enough of Summer, actually. Summer is boring. Summer is sweaty and icky. I do, however, envy people who are wildly and insanely crazy about hot summer days, they go swimming, they do this and that. Must be nice. *Yawn*.

Ah yes, I remember the good old days. I actually looked mighty fine in a bathing suit. Alas, that is a thing of the past. Only the extra pounds are real to me nowadays. I wouldn't be caught dead in a bathing suit now, if we had sharks in our lake I'd scare them away. Not to mention that the sight of me would also scare small children who would run away screaming for their mommies. *Sigh*

Kathie and the SIL are bringing my "new" monitor over today. I suppose I should vacuum or something. Nah, who cares. Love me, love my dirt. She mentioned in this morning's blog post that blogging seems to be in kind of a slowdown right now, or something like that. I have to agree, it IS kind of slow. That's because of this friggin' summertime crap. Cold weather is more exhilerating. Yay!! My Packers sweat shirt and Sunday football................Double Yay!!

It was the Wednesday Volunteers turn to~~~put on the annual "picnic". A bunch of them plan the theme, get decorations, music (one man band), plan the menu with hospital Food Services and voila', a picnic. Last night's theme was "America the Beautiful", easy one to decorate, for sure. We were in the hospital cafeteria. The patio has been closed for ages, construction, you know.

You want stereotypes of old people? This picnic was the ultimate. We stood and recited the Pledge of Allegiance. We sang "God Bless America". Two Hundred grey (or bald) heads bobbing in time to the accordion music.. Rose E. had her red/white/blue vest on and after she stopped at our table to say Howdy, etc., she danced away with an Uncle Sam rag doll (from the Gift Shoppe). Rose is about 85 and a real babe.

We stood in line for the buffet. One male volunteer I run into when I'm on the patient floors stopped to say Hello. He is one of those "close" standers..........you know? They stand about six inches from your face while they talk to you? I hate that. I hate him. Eeeeuuu. Then there's always the inevitable "HI, Lorraine, haven't seen YOU for a long time, hehehe". No, you twit, that's because you work on Mondays and I work on Tuesdays.

So the "band" played on. And we all burst into song........."You Are My Sunshine" God help us, we all knew the words to both verses..

It was nearly 7:00 p.m. The doorprizes had been distributed, the apple pie/ice cream and coffee devoured and the big night out was over for the weary party animals. .A night to remember.

Just got back~~~from Susan's place, she had quite an interesting day, which culminated in having to shop for a new car. Actually, my first stop is always at Kitty's place where she talked about how much fun her cute little red convertible is to drive. Hmmmpf. Big deal.

I bought a '87 Chevy Cavalier brand new and woo, was I proud. So sleek, so shiny, so peppy, so smoooth. Just like me.

Fast forward 15 years. Still have car, but it's sluggish, a little rusty, driver's seat is sagging and nobody pays any attention to it anymore.

Hey, I actually have~~~something interesting to say. Yay!! This is a good subject. The Ground Zero site, what's the best thing to be done there? Talks have begun on the issue.. Two ideas. Either build another World Trade Center bigger and better than before, or create a memorial at the site.

My vote goes for the memorial. There's 16 acres of land. Can't you just picture what a beautiful area it could become? Beside the memorial itself, a parklike atmosphere could also be built for people to stop, pay homage and reflect on just how lucky we are to be Americans. The decision is supposed to be made by December.

Gosh, I envy the bloggers who have the good sense and self-discipline to post a nice, short and to the point blog. I really have to work on my excessive verbiage when I get on this machine. I am going to try, from now on, to be less blabby and really smooooth. It may take a little time, being afflicted with blabbyosis is a chronic condition and may require a slow return to normalcy. Whatever that is........

Just messing around~~~~at my ISP forum discussions and one of the posts in the "Entertainment" forum talked about the really great idea Harrison Ford had to create a corridor from top to bottom on the western coast---for wildlife to be able to range freely. I can't remember the details. She lauded his efforts on behalf of the environment.

And rightly so, of course. There are quite a few celebrities who use their name on behalf of environmental and wildlife issues. One of the more well-know activists is Robert Redford. Interesting site, lots of causes. They will send a letter to your representative/senator if the cause is in the U.S., and to the appropriate government head for foreign countries. They have had many successes in their 25-year history.

I like Care-2. Again, lots of causes, but a fun site, too. My favorite screensaver came from there. It's called "rainforest" and, of course, is available for download.

Just dropped in on Brandy and by sheer coincidence (??) she is asking readers if they think writing letters to politicians or local nabobs, or whoever, does any good, or has any effect on politicial decisions. Drop in at her blog and see what's happening.

Other than letter-writing, be sure you get out and VOTE -- even in primaries!! When someone tells me Oh, they didn't bother voting in the primary, I tell them.....Good!! You just allowed me to choose which two candidates will be on the ballot on election day!! This November's election could decide the fate of our environment, women's abortion rights---in fact, a whole lot of issues that ordinary working people care about. I think it's safe to say most of you know how I feel about the current administration. Since 1952 I have voted Republican and I have voted Democratic. I finally found out once and for all who the party is that cares the most about the ordinary American citizen, and it sure ain't the oil millionaires!!

My brain hurts~~~~because I am trying too hard to decipher the help thingie from Blogger on how to archive this page of blogs. I give up. It's really much easier to delete them, which I may just do. Who looks at old blog archives anyway? The hell with it.

But I am nothing if not dumb enough to try a link (be gentle, Blogger, this is my first time). OK, here goes. The Whitehouse . Well, I'll be darned. Hey Diddle-diddle, it worked. Somofagun, you learn something every day. Well, anyway............

I hated, absolutely hated, spending $16 for a manicure for the damn cat yesterday. But he was driving me up a wall with his manic running around, scratching on the walls and just generally acting like he had mad cow disease. Or something like that. Have you ever laid in bed early in the morning just kind of nice and drowsy and trying to ignore that annoying pressure emanating from your bladder............then a cat sporting 9-inch nails stretches his whole body length and screeches those nails down the wall? Trust me, it gets you up and to the potty re-e-e-al quick.

So I called for an appointment and off we went. He starts caterwauling from the minute I put the carrier in the back seat of the car until I park in front of the vet's office. Once in, I have to turn the carrier upside down to get him out, and he's still holding on for dear life..........so I just yanked him by the front legs and -- squish -- out he came. They always have to weigh-in the animals first Rambo is a real hunk. Nine pounds, four ounces.. woo.

Anyway, as usual, he cuddled in the arms of the vet tech like a long-lost lover, gazing dreamily into space (ignoring me completely) while she clipped those monstrous nails, nice and very short. Perfect!!

Re-wind to the beginning and listen to the outraged caterwauling all the way home. At one point, there was a kind of muffled sound and then a second of silence before he started in again. I knew what that meant. The doofus puked in the carrier, he does it every time. I had a bunch of paper towels in it, but of course he had those all bunched up in back so he could puke better on the bare floor and sides of the carrier.

Ahhh, but it was all worth it, even washing vomit off the pet carrier. He is like a totally different animal, subdued, no scratching on the walls, sweet and lovey-dovey. It is the most amazing transformation I have ever seen and it happens every time we come home after a manicure like this. I woke up on my own about 6:00 this morning and he was just sitting quietly on the windowsill watching whatever it is cats watch.

I am already saving for his next trip to the alluring vet technician he is so keen on. I will have to give up buying groceries for a while, but it is $16 well spent. (Truth be known, this is a rip-off, it takes about one minute to zap the nails) But that's OK. If the cat is happy, I'm happy.
