Magazines are nice~~~things to have around for quick inspiration, thoughtful messages, educational purposes and great t ime-killers for trips to the bathroom. It occurred to me the other day when my "Reader's Digest" arrived in the mail that for superficial inspiration, there is nothing like the R.D. It has jokes, at least one story of someone saving someone else's life and a whole bunch of useless trivia. The R.D. is definitely a bathroom magazine.

I got my first copy of "Cat Fancy" too, last week. I am still wondering why I subscribed to this. *Sigh* There is a wall-mounted display of assorted advertising stuff as you're leaving the supermarket. I picked up a folder with a picture of a really cute kitten on the cover. There must be some kind of powder on it to give people a subliminal message...."Psst, you. Yeah, you. Fill out the card and put it in a mailbox". Which I did. A bill for $14.95 arrived shortly after. But, boy, did I outfox them! I made them wait till I actually got a copy before I paid them. I ain't no wuss these people can shove around, no sireee.

Ah, but for wonderful, inspiring thoughts of a truely New Me, there is nothing like my fav subscription magazine, "Prevention". I read all the great articles on how to change a lumpy, arthritic, near-sighted 71-year old female (me) and I stand up----tall and proud--and say YES, I can do this. And I am also going to try all those recipes for really healthy food, too. Most of the ingredients are quite exotic and difficult to find, but that should be no deterrent to becoming a vibrant New Me.

This resolve sometimes even lasts more than one day.

Nancy Drew Incarnate~~~~That would be me. Nancy Drew was my ideal girl. Smart, independent (before the idea of Equal Rights and feminist causes were the norm), very well dressed. Oh, and blonde. Heroines gotta be blonde. I had the whole set of the books, the original 1940's mystery series. She was one kewl babe, and a helluva detective.

The original author died last year, but the books, or so I heard somewhere, are continuing with a new author for the new millenium. I should check Barnes & Noble. Anyway, I digress. I digress a lot. That's why my blogs are always so damn long. I envy people who can post zippy, entertaining blogs in less than 150 words. That's not me. In fact, I'm doing it again. Right now. Ack!

As I was saying before I so rudely interrupted myself, I'm gonna find me a copy of the "new" Nancy Drew. What I do (like anyone cares) is check with B&N first, then go to the library where the price is right. My mama didn't raise no fool. Oh, and I'm going to the movie store and rent "Gosford Park", too. Hey, this babe is gonna be ready for one wild weekend........wheeee.
