Addenda to speech~~~about the letter to America from a Canadian. I had talked about the foolishness of Americans who sue for the dumbest reasons, e.g., the Arizona man who claimed eating 4-5 times a week at fast-food restaurants made him diabetic, hypertensive, overweight, and for good measure, a touch of arteriosclerosis (sp?). He said he didn't know their food was so "greasy and had so many chemicals". Then I mentioned that whoever didn't like the phrase "Under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance didn't have to say it.

It was Catana's comment that got me re-thinking my position. I don't like that phrase either, and since I grew up reciting the POA without that superfluous addition, why shouldn't I just say so instead of trying to appease everyone? It's just one more way the Christian majority in America is saying "My way or the highway". I am very weary of hearing preach-y Compassionate Conservatives loudly proclaim their superiority because, as everyone should know.......this country was founded on Christianity. Excuse me?

The Puritans who ran from England's oppression and came here so they could "do their thing" the way they wanted to, were the most bloodthirsty, tight-assed, narrow-minded bunch of human beings this country has ever known. Any correlation between this bunch of airheads and Christianity is pure fiction. (Should anyone call you "puritanical", don't consider it a compliment!) Luckily for us, the true founding fathers, and especially Thomas Jefferson, created a Bill of Rights and a Constitution for this country that includes "separation of church and state". And 200+ years later, some people still don't get it.

Catzilla, A Horror Story~~~Don't know about you, but I think this independent film with original screenplay by Faith and Boris is a masterpiece of the horror movie genre. I watched and listened several times, finding subtle nuances and different insights with each viewing. Brava, almost certainly an Oscar winner. Kudos to Faith and Boris. Boris and Faith. Whatever.

I been doin' some thinking lately~~~ and boy, did that hurt. People keep sending me copies of, or links to, gazillions of political articles and websites. They are fellow liberals, so of course they are preaching to the choir. Some things I get really upset about, like the horrible things happening to people around the world (especially women in prehistoric countries), babies tossed into dumpsters, environmental nightmares taken too lightly (by everyone), animals used and tortured for heaven knows what purpose, a so-called president who is throwing our country into the sewer........it never ends.

The crowning touch was a link to a newspaper article called "An Open Letter to America from A Canadian". (Scroll down middle column) I felt really bad after reading this, even though I haven't done any of the things the writer is accusing Americans of doing. Yeah, well, the writer made some good points about our apathy and nonchalance about what is happening to our democracy at this moment. On the other hand, he got a little carried away, too, and exaggerated just a tad. (to say the least) Then, doggone it, I got to thinking about some of the good stuff we do, just because we are Americans, damn it.

The average, normal type of American, and I believe there's a whole lot of us, are always there to help in times of need. Sending clothing and food.......companies trucking in bottled water.......when a town is ravaged by flood, tornado or hurricane. Volunteers helping their neighbors in different kinds of crises. I was especially moved by the showing of Animal Planet's animal control officers who climbed dark, dangerous stairways to rescue beloved pets left behind in the 9/11 evacuation. The heroic efforts of both man and dog in the rescue efforts at Ground Zero was very emotional, especially to see the tender loving care those dogs received when they took a "break" from their hard work with their equally tired handler.

The hard work of volunteers trying desperately to save beached whales...............volunteers worked so hard to clean up waterfowl after the Exxon oil spill in Alaska and other accidents since that big one. Innocent animals suffocating with their cover of oilclogged feathers, awful. I watched a program the other night about the Navy vs. the great blue whale (largest mammal on the planet). The sightseeing boat filled with people gasping in awe and delight at the sight of this magnificent creature. Someone in Ohio released caged minks from a fur-coat-farm the other night. They showed some being caught and put back in their cages, and some merrily running into the woods, where they will probably not survive but at least they have a fighting chance. No doubt about which side I was cheering for----

America is a large friendly dog in a very small room. Every time it wags its tail, it knocks over a chair.

Wow, it was really burning up~~~over at Tess's place.. I just got back and I'm sweating bullets. HOT stuff. No, not porno, you perverts, just a really great steamy Tess-rant and a variety of comments. Gosh, that was really swell. If anyone can rile people up, Tess can. Cheers!!

Now this is the kind of stuff that makes blogging fun, people!! Some bloggers take themselves way too seriously, trust me, the angst and "pain" in one's personal life is nothing compared to the real world. I know it sounds like your grandma lecturing you, but doggone it, your problems will, eventually, solve themselves. I had problems when I was younger. Who doesn't?? Hells Bells, I guess I still have "problems", but so what. My motto is, just go with the flow and be grateful to the pharmaceutical companies who make life worth living and my creaky bones keep moving.

And with that final benediction, I am going to forage for food now.
